Accidental Hero
Professional Builder Magazine pays tribute to a builder who has overcome adversity to continue in the tradition of excellence expected of a HBXL award winner.
If given the choice, people up and down the country would probably choose to have a little lie in rather than get up in the morning; the daily grind makes that prospective extra 20 minutes in bed even more appealing.
But, if you’ve suffered two major accidents resulting in a broken neck and loss of sight in one eye, many would be even more inclined to call it a day.
Accidental Hero
Not so Jeff Goodyer of Artbuild Kent Ltd who, despite a number of serious physical setbacks, still gets up in the morning with a smile on his face and an exciting expectation about the day ahead.
Its through Jeff’s adversity that he and his family team, which includes his two sons Justin and Christian, have grown their general building business. They have a reputation for quality workmanship, reliability and superb customer care across Kent and the South East.
When asked what keeps him excelling, Jeff said, “When I was recuperating after my accidents, I was totally reliant on others to help me get through. Because of this we make sure those we work for get the best possible service.”
“People save up a long time for a new extension, brand new kitchen or conversion. So we ensure their dream exceeds customer expectations, even if it means spending a little longer on the job than anticipated.”
“Customers rely on us to make their dreams come true and it gives us great pleasure to make those dreams reality no matter how small the job. It’s only fair that we treat our clients in a way that we would like be treated ourselves and we can’t leave a job unless we know ourselves its been done to the very highest standard.”

With the general building business now well established, Jeff is looking to expand the remit of the company which he hopes will see him and the team branch into building high spec, new houses. Jeff added, “You could say I have had my fair share of accidents but I’ve never let that stop me from looking forward and providing a top quality service.”
“It’s galling to come across jobs that haven’t been done right or in a haphazard way as its disrespectful to the customer and doesn’t help the image of the industry as a whole. “Its nice to receive this accolade and is one all of the team should take pride in. It will certainly make getting in the morning even easier – not that that was a problem in the first place!”
