Having an extension or loft conversion can be one of the most intrusive things that can happen to any home owner. So being able to talk openly and frankly to the builder in charge without the fear of being ridicules or belittled is probly one of the most important aspects for any customer.
Its this ability to get on with a customer and sorting out any issues or new ideas immediately is what Ian Sanderson believes has helped him build a successful business, and develop a reputation in and around the Doncaster and Sheffield area.
An electrician by trade, Ian set up his business back in 1990 having spent a few years working as a coal miner, prior to which he worked as an electrician. However, the coal crisis of the mid/late 80s enabled Ian to literally see the light when he decided to go it alone.
Having trained in other general building techniques, Ian now focuses his time on building extensions, loft conversions and refurbishments, although he has been known to get involved with some landscaping.
For Ian, the chance to be outdoors where each day brings fresh challenges is what drives him to provide the best possible service to all his customers.
Ian said “Being able to provide a range of general building work makes everyday completely different and is something I love doing. But before I start on any job I make sure I visit the customer two or three times to go over the plans, talk through the estimates and generally get to know them. That way we start to build a rapport, so if any problems arise either party can quite openly start a dialogue to get things sorted.”
“Fortunately, I’ve never had anyone complain about the work I do, and this is in due part due to us being able to talk. Because I’m on site constantly means any issue or problems come through me direct, which then get actioned immediately.”
Having never once warned from his principles, the company is proof that a business can survive in today’s increasingly competitive market without having to cut corners and sticking by what it believes in. Ian added “I’m delighted to have been nominated for this award and look forward to getting out there’s and making people’s dream’s come true.”
