ProjectXpert:
Project management software for Builders, Developers, Contractors and Subcontractors
Due for release: 17th October 2010
Delivering Projects on time and on Budget
As the economy makes tentative steps out of recession, the need to keep a close eye on budget and your project schedule has never been more significant, and could be the difference between a profitable building project and one that makes a stress enducing loss.
Professional project planning and management has been more common place on larger construction sites but how do small to medium building firms go about it today? Paperbased charts on walls? Simple spreadsheets? Complex software? Or maybe even no planning all?
According to statistics from HBXL, only 38% of SME building firms actually use their computers for managing their jobs, and very few use dedicated project management software - the perceived reason cited for non usage of software was complexity and that it was for ‘big companies’.
Simple yet effective
So HBXL set about developing project management software with a difference – one with smaller building firms in mind. The latest package in their popular range of building software is called ProjectXpert and it claims to help improve the way you operate and save you huge amounts of time by making sure all your projects run as smoothly as possible.
And it’s really easy! All you do is list the tasks that need to be carried out, either by entering them into the activity spreadsheet or simply by drawing bars on the screen by selecting the sequence of each task, who it applies to and what is required to do it.
Stay in control
Once the project schedule has been created, you can at a glance see:
- Which tasks affect the ‘Critical Path’
- Which resources are over-allocated
- When more resources are required to complete a project on time
- When finances will need to be committed
- When the project will generate positive cash flow
- Predicted costs based on resource usage at the defined unit cost
- If new projects can be undertaken with current resource levels
- The risk of running over time or budget

Professional Reports
It can be used to create quick presentation reports including build programs, resource charts, cash-flow plus many standard graphs and charts to analyse the job such as spend profile. It also has the ability to display and merge usage of labour, materials and equipment and highlight over allocation as well as highlighting over or under allocation of resources.
Team ProjectXpert with EstimatorXpress for the ultimate project management solution
The integration of all HBXL’s software through X-connex™ data sharing technology makes the combination of HBXL’s estimating software EstimatorXpress and Project Xpert a powerful project management solution unlike anything else on the market.
Once an estimate is produced on EstimatorXpress, the project details such as start date and cost and resource information can be imported into ProjectXpert giving a clear outline of the projects timeline (gantt charts with critical path anlysis) as well as complete breakdown of costs allowing you to manage the project successfully from start to completion.
It can be used for individual jobs or multiple projects of any size and multiple estimates/jobs can be merged from EstimatorXpress so they are consolidated as one project.
Anthony Botibol, marketing manager at HBXL says “And because it’s been developed by those who work in the build sector those who struggle with their project management will not only find it easy to use but will be hard pushed to find anything better on the market.”
“Although builders may be comfortable with spreadsheet and word processing systems they are probably not the most profitable method for project management so the benefits of changing to using a project management software system far outweigh any concerns they may have.”
