CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme) was set up in 1998. It provides contractors with a benchmark in health and safety competence, which many clients now insist upon before invitation to tender or the award of the contract

The CHAS assessment covers many aspects including:

• Health and Safety policy statement
• Organisation for Health and Safety
• Specific Health and Safety arrangements to a standard acceptable to clients
