Why won't EstimatorXpress run after installing the update?
There are two known reasons why the latest EstimatorXpress Update will not run after installing the update:
-
Sometimes Windows Vista or Windows 7 stops one of our update files from registering correctly when applying the EstimatorXpress Update.
Therefore after installing the update you may find that EstimatorXpress will no longer run when you click on it on your desktop.
To fix this:
-
Right click on the EstimatorXpress icon on your desktop and you will get a drop down menu.
-
From this menu select "Run as Administrator". This will then register the update file correctly.
-
In future you should then be able to click on the EstimatorXpress icon as usual.
-
Symantec Norton Antivirus, Norton 360 and Norton Internet Security 2010 are also known to be blocking the installation of files required for the EstimatorXpress Update.
As of early July 2010 an update to Norton Antivirus means that it now detects the EstimatorXpress update file as a virus (incorrectly!) and removes it without asking your permission.
We are currently liaising with Symantec about this so hopefully they will cease this some time soon.
However, in the meantime here is the fix:
-
Open up the Settings within your Norton Antivirus software and disable the Antivirus.
-
Download the EstimatorXpress update and install it.
-
Once the installation is complete, switch your Norton Antivirus back on.
