On first contacting the company, I was given sound advice on which product options were available and the benefits. I was offered a trial of the software with on-line demonstration.
As time progressed, my silly inexperienced queries were handle with professional courtesy and an attitude of no query to small. As an example to their commitment and support, one weekend evening I was working to get a quote finished but had a technical problem with my old PC and the new software. On HBXL website, I saw the sales advisor "ask me a question" box saying he was on-line. I asked if he minded me asking a technical query. He didn't mind at all and even got hold of a technical support advisor at home, whom logged-in, and fixed my problem. The quote got finished and posted. I won the job.

Prior to moving to HBXL I used two other suppliers of estimating software, one a very expensive supplier then one at the lower end of the market, both companies were used for some time, the cheapest option being the better suited to a small to medium size company or sole trader, the large companies system was far to in depth and complicated, with the cheaper being just the ticket for quick budget estimates, simple to use but had little in depth choices.
At this time, I had heard of HBXL and had some demonstrations whilst at Interbuild over a number of years, but never followed up with any purchase. Then I had one of the largest jobs I had ever quoted, my existing software was not up to the mark, the HBXL team had impressed me enough to get in touch and request some help and advice. Simon Wild followed up with a call and on site demonstration, where he was able to show that he could actually price not only the large contract but also the small contracts, now as a small builder it’s important that any funds are spent on things that work and where I can gain access to help as and when needed. I have been with HBXL now for a number of years and have since expanded my software to cover the main areas of my works and I have always had the back up I needed.
Would I recommend HBXL "YES I Would" they have always been there to help even to the point that when I needed to update my computer it was HBXL support that I contacted for advice. As for the ongoing assistance that any new or existing user needs HBXL are there with the time and expertise to support you.
I have over the years seen the building industry change, with HBXL these changes are accounted for in the software updates and the web training is a great success for me, as I need to do things on a one to one to get the most out of any training. Web training sessions are just one way HBXL have looked at their customers and adapted their training to suit.

Visual Estimating Testimonials
In a difficult market where there seem to be less and less jobs available, I always have to be thinking about what we can do to maximise our chances of winning the jobs we quote for. Visual Estimating is a great way to do this. It really makes you stand out from the crowd.
I didn’t used to offer to do drawings for customers. However, since buying PlansXpress I have started offering the service, particularly for the smaller jobs like extensions or garage conversions. The way I work now is that I do the drawing for a customer on PlansXpress and then export it into EstimatorXpress to generate the estimate.
I also have the 3D PhotoVisualiser and this has helped enormously. All you have to do is click one button to see your plan in a photorealistic view. And whilst you are drawing out a project, you might as well be getting a 3D model thrown into the bargain. Customers have been really impressed that I can show them a realistic image of what their project will look like.
This all means that I am now at the stage where a customer can tell me their ideas or show me a scrappy little drawing and then I can come back to them will a fully developed concept, plans, a quote with a full cost break-down, and a 3D model of their project. I take my laptop with me to customer’s houses to show it all off. It really gets customers excited to be presented with their dreams, but as something real and tangible. Work has definitely increased because of this.
I also think it helps that I can now offer a full design and build service. Customers like that they only have to go to one person to ask about their project, rather than wasting time liaising between an architect and a builder. This has been enabled by HBXL software.

I have been using EstimatorXpress for a number of years and it has become an essential tool of my business. All estimates, even quite small ones, are produced using the software. It enables accurate detailed prices to be produced in a relatively short space of time. It provides every builder of all trades a logical easy to follow and adapt estimating system cutting estimating from a guess to an accurate, trade guided estimate, based on professional time allowances and material usage. Then to top it off, it provides you with a completely professionally prepared and easily changed estimate, no longer do you have to wait for the wife or secretary to type it, it does it for you. I started my business knowing how to do the work but not easily price it and give timescales. I started cheap on day rate and was a busy fool used by my customers.
With this unease in mind I looked for software or something that would take the pressure and onus off me guessing. I tried price books but spent many hours scanning pages. I then met HBXL at a Toolfair having read about them in a trade magazine. I was impressed with EstimatorXpress and the fact that not only did it have a comprehensive database of jobs, time allowance, labour rates etc. It also included all the little bits I usually forgot to include i.e. fit 3m horizontal copper pipe, fixings at 1m, 3 clips, 3 no 8 screws, plugs, labour drill holes etc. I was very impressed.
I was initially put off by the cost but realised instantly the benefit to my business. A little later I was contacted with an offer to rent. This option suited my small business, and my journey began. I was producing quotes knowing they were accurate to the customer specification given. I now don't feel guiltily about quoting a price, worrying it's too high. I know the costings time schedule are accurate and importantly, what my profit is. The reports are excellent with the option to list every key component and phase of the job.
If a customer asks to compare my price with another trader, I ask them what left out, or missed in their price; I provide a detailed quote that includes everything requested. There is no, "oh that wasn't included", or "that'll be extra" sayings, and if the customer changes something, I can tell them quickly what the cost difference is and produce a variation quote.

Initially I thought that EstimatorXpress was expensive but now that I’m using it I’ve started to realise all the things that I might have missed on each job and forgotten about. Plus my work has more than doubled since I got the software, so the software definitely pays for itself. Before EstimatorXpress I guess I used to estimate the ‘back of a fag packet’ method.
I’d work out the materials I need on the job, roughly, I’d try and take a guess at the labour costs based on experience and then hope that it’s about right and that I’d make some money. Now EstimatorXpress costs everything up and I can just go and add my profit, and whereas I was probably winning about 30% of jobs I was quoting for (so 3 out of every 10) I’m now winning 8 out of 10.
Customers have given me feedback about the detail and presentation of my quotes which gives them confidence and swings them in my favour. I’m certainly not the cheapest either! I would recommend EstimatorXpress to any builder I meet!

At last! a software company that actually delivers a first class product with first class support, I spent ages trying different CAD packages and they all disappointed in some way, for example one (cheap) package couldn't draw cavity walls so I tried (and bought!) another one and guess what, it would only draw in feet and inches!
I expanded my search and saw HBXL's advert in Professional Builder magazine and asked for more details and I have to admit the first thing I did was ask how much? Next thing I knew I met the team at the NEC trade show where I was shown just what the software could do and promptly bought it on the spot.
Since then I have been able to produce plans to such a good quality that some people query whether I did it myself! Praise indeed. The next problem I had to address was health and safety but by this time I was so impressed by the techies support on Plans Express (thanks Ed) I was confident enough to order the health & safety package which turned out to be brilliant, we had a serious accident on one of our sites requiring the HSE to investigate and I am glad to say the risk assessments stood up to scrutiny (thank you HBXL).
I have now purchased the Estimator software and so far so good, when I get stuck I ring them for advice and they always deal with it in a friendly professional way without making you feel daft for asking a simple question. A really good genuine company that share the same ethos as hard working builders, they deserve every success.

I purchased ‘PlansXpress’ software on Friday just gone with an urgent need to provide drawings for architect & engineer submission for approval this Monday (tomorrow).
This letter is written as a way of saying thank you for providing such a straight forward software application that is just so easy to use.
I have another well known AutoCAD package and have tried several times to grasp this software but with no success. I took the plunge only 3 days ago to purchase ‘PlansXpress’ and I’ve found it easy to produce a decent schematic of the plumbing & heating scheme for a combined large domestic property.
I’ve also been using existing pdf plans by adding the pdf as an image to scale to a blank page. I’ve then been able to add drainage runs, water, heating services and much more.
This I found by using the ‘tech tips’ online which really are so very useful and easy to understand. I’m still yet to open the manual I received in the post on Saturday.
I really set myself a mission & goal for achieving a near impossible task by having to learn a new software package and produce professional drawings in just one weekend.
This letter is for other builders and plumbers to say ‘yes, this really is a perfect & easy to use package to assist one’s business’.
Along with ‘EstimatorXpress’ I look forward to mastering all the features with both packages and continue to use and support HBXL.

I have used PlansXpress for 3 months now, it was a significant sum so i spent over a month deciding whether to purchase the software, i also invested in EstimatorXpress & an A1 ink jet colour printer.. I can now save £15,000 a year in architects fees, but where i really win is i can play around with different layouts to my hearts content which means i never have to make any changes once we start physically building, this saves me labour, materials & most importantly time.
The export function allows me to create PDF copies of the drawings which i can quickly and easily e mail to people to get feedback on them. Having the A1 printer I can also print as many copies of drawings off without resorting to the architect so when a change is made everyone can have a new copy straight away.

The software is marvellous! When I send people the relevant
paperwork they actually take the mickey, because what I send to them is
so thorough, they think I'm sending them too much! I can usually do the
general health & paperwork for the job in the time it takes me to
eat my lunch.
Health & Safety Xpert saves me hours and I can tailor it to a
specific job by simply amending an odd sentence in the risk assessment
or the risk numbering. With the method statement I can take out
sections that are not relevant and all of the statement is renumbered
and repaginated.
It has also made me think about the statement more carefully and the
risks to staff. We have been doing a job for a national electricity
provider who are very hot on health and safety issues, so far since I
have sent them the health & safety expert I've had no queries or
questions, which is great from our point of view especially as sum of
the work is near sub-station cables!
